Which Motorola radios are actually waterproof?
In the consumer line, the TALKABOUT T600 and T800 series are IP67 rated — you can drop them in a pool and they survive. The T460 and below are splash-resistant at best. How should you care for a wet radio?
Even IP67 radios have limits. Salt water is harder on them than fresh — rinse with fresh water after salt exposure. The charging contacts corrode if left wet, so dry the radio before docking it. And the IP rating assumes the battery compartment is sealed properly; a cracked door defeats the protection. If a radio gets dunked beyond its rating, remove the battery immediately and let everything dry fully before powering on.
Do you actually need waterproof?
If you’re near water, kayaking, fishing, or working in the rain — yes, it’s the difference between a radio that lasts and a radio that dies.
